Centric Magazine
Project Overview:
As the 2024 Creative Director for Centric Magazine—a student-run publication at the University of Central Florida—I was honored to lead the visual direction of the issue in collaboration with the journalism program. Tasked with transforming compelling stories into a cohesive visual narrative, I oversaw layout design, art direction, and publication branding. This role challenged me to grow as both a designer and a leader, strengthening my ability to manage timelines, guide a creative team, and bring a multi-disciplinary project from concept to press.
Creative Approach:
For this issue, we embraced a more analog-inspired design direction to reflect the raw, expressive nature of the stories shared by students across campus. Many features were illustrated or collaged by hand, resulting in an eclectic yet cohesive visual style. This tactile approach added depth and personality to the layout, aligning with the magazine’s voice and grounding each piece in a sense of authenticity. I developed a flexible design system that allowed each story to shine while maintaining visual unity throughout. This experience deepened my understanding of publication design and taught me how to lead with clarity, creativity, and collaboration.
